Shopulator 1.1 Released

An update to Shopulator has been posted to the Android Market.

Shopulator 1.1 Changelog:

  • Added currency option; choose between dollars, pounds, euros and yen.
  • Removed default “0.00″ price on the item entry screen for faster keying
  • Improved list scrolling performance
  • Added FAQs section to the options menu

Thank you for all of the feedback sent in so far! Please continue sending in suggestions and comments. Two popular requests right now seem to be barcode scanning and a screen keyboard. Taken from the FAQ:

Can you add barcode scanning for item prices?
Unfortunately, since barcodes only contain UPC codes, there is no way for Shopulator to pull item pricing data from them (especially from local grocery markets). While some price scanning applications exist (like ShopSavvy), they typically work for items where pricing can be found online, usually for electronics. Unfortunately, that kind of information isn’t really possible with things such as canned peas and bananas.

Can you add an on-screen soft keyboard?
Since an official keyboard will be included in the next major Android update (Cupcake), Shopulator will simply take advantage of that standard soft-keyboard when it is released, which hopefully will be soon!

    Hi David.

I like the program so far. Thanks for your hard work. Just a couple od suggestions..

    * An option to copy items that are frequently bought to new lists. Maybe a long press on an item with a copy and paste option.

    * A small notes section for each item so that I may note brand names or the package size

Thanks again. I will donate because I like how you made the app free and made it good too.

    you done good job, thanks…

I agree with Jason “note” will be very good )) and more,
not only note, like example – link to some site(when you want to buy or have detailed description),
phone field when you have chance to add phone of shop where you want to buy, staus(in delivery etc…)planning date and time of delivery etc…

    Thanks for you software…

    Hi David,

I recently downloaded your shopping app and can’t tell you enough how much I love it. I have used it twice, on trips to the grocery store, and am truly hooked. I don’t think I could ever do grocery shopping again without it. Seriously, I am on such a strict budget and your app has made it easier and helped me tremendously in sticking to my exact budget. Thanks so much for developing it! Please don’t make too many changes; it’s perfect in my eyes. :)

    Hi David,
Your program is very good, thanks. Just my suggestion:

    * Export to CSV
You can use OI Convert CSV: http://www.openintents.org/en/node/158

    * Crossing to mark complete and just a click edit

    Best regards.

    How do I deleate lists?

  6. David says:

You can delete lists by long-pressing on the list name and choosing delete from the pop-up menu. It will prompt to you make sure you want to delete the list (and all items on the list).

Hi David. Very nice job. Keep up the good work. A suggestion for the future – maybe make it so you can move an item up or down in the list. Very useful for sorting things by store area, or keeping items bundled by type.

    Diavid,

This application has a lot of promise. I’m going to give it a try. Like many others, I have a suggestion/request. If a list could be given categories, then lists such as grocery/staples could be sorted/organized by things like departments, sections (like produce, dairy. Etc) and such. I’ve been looking for an app that will help me manage a master-list that I would use to track the need to replenish house hold staples. I suppose I icould make a series of lists, but I see a potential for categories that can show related subtotals.

Keep up the good work. After I put this app through some practical paces, I will donate should I choose to keep it.

    Thanks!

I understand the issue with barcode scanning but if you could still add it in without prices, it would be easier to add items to the list. Instead of having to scroll down my grocery list to find Better ‘n Eggs, I could just scan the carton when its out or running low and it would automatically be added to the list.

    David,

Shopulator is the best app of its kind that I have found and I have tried more than 10 of these shopping list programs.

    Here are my suggestions:

    o csv import/export
o add barcode scanner anyway (I read the FAQ) and let us add our own descriptions and price.
o barcode scanner should work in two modes:
when making your list, scan an item at home to add it to a list
when shopping, scan an item as you add it to your cart to check it off the list (and update the price if needed)
o when unchecking an item in the list, remove it from the total (right now, total is not updated)
o add a checkbox to indicate if an item is taxable/non-taxable
o “master list” to simplify list creation

    Thanks for the great work!

Correction to my previous comment: I see now that the total in the bottom left corner is updated as you add/remove items.

One more feature request: Decimal quantities. We often buy items by weight, and it would be great to add items with a quantity of .5 or 1.2, etc. That way we can track the price per pound, and note how many pounds we purchased.

Thanks again for an awesome app!
